I've developed a small app for wp7 marketplace that is heavily based on mapsui: http://goo.gl/TpgCl looks working well on 512mb and 256mb devices, but if someone can make some tests... :) BTW: I've made some changes to base code, but nothing that I think can improve the library, so no need for a patch or something similar.

cool! Did you use a recent version?

Why did you need to make the changes to the base code? What functionality was lacking? It is always good to know what people need when building real apps.

I tried to follow the link you posted, but I don't have a app hub account at the moment and need to pay 75 euro to view it. I would really like to see it I find that too expensive :) What is the name of the app?

ah, I found it:

The performance of Mapsui on the phone could be improved. It is still a bit too heavy. Perhaps it should fetch data only on the touch up, and not while pannen. Perhaps it should fetch only on 1 thread. Animations might be too heavy too. Perhaps only animations when the user is not dragging the map. In the worst case just move one bitmap of the whole map around while dragging.

For the user experience a direct response is the most important thing.

I agree. It's not very smooth and you can lose your actions while it loads (ie. map moves only a fraction of the way you swiped). But it does look superb on my phone :)
